ACROYOGA IN YOSEMITE: AN ELEMENTAL BALANCING RETREAT

Celebrate independence by embracing trust this 4th of July by giving yourself the gift of creation. On this yogic walkabout through the stunning opulence of Yosemite National State Park, take time to focus on the individual aspects of life itself– Earth, Wind, Water, Fire, Ether– to better understand challenge and reward, metta (loving kindness) and mediation, yoga and acrobatics. We’ll sleep atop majestic mountains, hike alongside endless waterfalls, practice beneath ancient trees, take flight upon rocky plateaus, and deepen the connection between HERE and NOW.

Led by Daniel Scott, seasoned AcroYoga instructor and movement therapist, this hiking retreat is open to yogis of all skill levels and ages who are able to handle the physical requirements necessary to hike up and camp at altitude. Three days of active hiking are split by two days of yoga practice and relaxation. No prior experience with AcroYoga or regular yoga is required, although expect an energizing blend of both practices as part of the experience. Participants will be offered daily inspiration and reflective guidance in line with the elemental themes. In addition to morning meditation, physical practices, and shared meals, the group will congregate each evening for daily download and intention setting. There will be lots of freedom, no rush, no extra, and– of course– lots of fun.

With Daniel Scott.

To Register please email: info@solyogatrips.com
Early-bird rate of $495 until March 15th.
Regular rate of $575.

Panama Yoga and Hiking

Posted by: Solyoga | Comments (0)

yoga service panama“I believe that people will only be moved to save the rainforest if they fall in love with it. ” – Earth Train Co-director and Biologist, Lider Sucre

You’re invited to fall in love with the rainforest!

This is quite simply one of the most interesting places in the world to visit. Our partners at Earth Train have created one of the most sustainable projects on earth in one of the top 20 most precious pieces of endangered rainforest. What is truly amazing about the project is not just that it is buying up all farmland on the edge of primary rainforest to create a natural barrier or that it is successfully reforesting that very land. It’s not only that it has sustainably created a sanctuary on the edge of primary rainforest or that it is building a performing arts space in the jungle with supporters like Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock and Jane Goodall . Nope, it’s not even that they have built the world’s lightest Kayak or that a biologist is onsite for most groups. It’s not even that they have amazing relationships with the indigenous Kuna Yala in the San Blas islands or that they hire locals for jobs that foreigners are usually brought in for. And it’s not even that the piece of land is one of the most spectacularly beautiful pieces of land in the entire world or that the wildlife is remarkable! We could keep going like this, really, but in our opinion what is so special about this project is how connected it is to the earth, to moving with love, to increasing awareness and to all the things we value in our yogic and spiritual journey.

You’re invited to have an adventure LIKE NO OTHER

So like we said, it is one of the most interesting places in the world to visit, but at SolYoga we usually don’t just visit. We EXPLORE. On this trip we will drive 4×4’s to the edge of the rainforest to Earth Train’s base camp. After we soak in the quiet of this remarkable ecolodge, we will take daily hikes to waterfalls and rivers and the continental divide. We’ll swim and kayak nearby and have a couple of optional excursions for you to chose from!

Come Explore this amazing Jungle! Learn about the rainforest! Be part of the solution! Adventure like few on earth get to! Share in the community that is created when good intention meets real action!

Daily Yoga and Meditation will be adapted to the nature that will surround our practice.

Experience

You don’t need to have any experience for this trip however you do have to be comfortable doing a half day hike. It is not necessary to have any yoga experience, a strong curiosity will do and a strong practice is welcome!

Emily Galvin

Emily Galvin Hiking yogaEmily Galvin RYT has been developing her yoga practice since 2001 and is a graduate from the Nosara Yoga Institute in Costa Rica with an Interdisciplinary Hatha Yoga Certification. For over 10 years her passion for the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of yoga lead her to study with some of the leading teachers in the Bay area, Costa Rica, and throughout South America. Her hope and intention as a teacher is to help others to learn and explore from the inside out. Emily hopes to offer her students a door and guided path through this beautiful adventure of life and to flow in our bodies and in the beauty that surrounds us. For the past year she has been leading guided yoga hikes in Woodside and San Francisco. Yoga hikes combine the cardio, the adventure of hiking outdoors, and the centering qualities of yoga. Her yoga classes encourage students to tap into their own creativity and to stay present, focus, and rejoice in the NOW.

Optional: Kayak Adventure across Kuna Yala with Earth Train

Your Guides

You’ll have 4-5 guides with you on the adventure . Because of the adventurous nature of the trip you will have an emergency medical response team member with you, a river guide, a jungle guide and yoga teacher. Expect some other interesting people around like biologists, musicians and environmentalists.

Earth Train: Where Your Journey Begins

Tropical Rainforests are the lungs of our Earth. They are the world’s treasure trove of biodiversity, containing as much as 80% of the world’s unique plant and animal life. To Earth Train, the tropical rainforests of the Mamoni Valley Preserve are a campus – a place to reconnect with nature and perform restoration on the natural environment and on ourselves, to support the development of leadership in a new generation that will base its economic, cultural, and spiritual survival on partnership with nature, instead of domination of it.

Adventure with a Purpose: Partnering with the Earth Train Leadership and Guide Institue

Building on Earth Train’s 10-year history in Panama, the Earth Train Leadership and Guide Institute at Centro Mamoni is providing highly motivated indivuals with the training, field experience and mentoring needed to become effective guides and leaders of biocultural learning and renewal.

The newly established institute carries out it’s mission through multi-year programs that combine in-the-field nature and cultural guide training; development of management and leadership skills; and liberal arts education with an emphasis on language and video documentation skills.

As part of Earth Train’s partnership with the Kuna General Congress, the International Alliance of Indigenous and Tribal Peoples of Tropical Forests and other NGOs serving indigenous communities, the ETLGI is focusing first on training indigenous youth to develop their potential as environmental and cultural leaders.

Teaming up with O.A.R.S., the internationally respected river adventure company, among other partners, the ETLGI will offer a menu of nature-study adventures to participants in Earth Train educational programs and to Institute contributors and mentors.

Rachel Meyer Yoga
Escape the urban grind for a weekend of yoga, fresh air, and mountain blooms. Join bhakti flow yoga teacher Rachel Meyer and Solyoga Trips for a rustic, heart-filled, revitalizing springtime getaway melding music, vinyasa and philosophy amidst some of the most beautiful scenery in Northern California.

This is not your usual chi-chi yoga retreat. You can leave your fancy-pants at home. This one’s all about keeping it real, kids.

Gather with a crew of like-minded folks who just wanna get their bhakti on. We’ll sweat, we’ll chant, we’ll hike, we’ll soak our sore muscles in the ancient hot springs that have been revered as sacred for hundreds of years. Join Rachel for an unpretentious, rockin’, Bhakti Flow yoga-filled, back-to-nature weekend under the stars — the kind of retreat meant for real people who wanna get their yoga and their nature and their big sky on, all at once. Sierra Hot Springs is based at the cusp of a lush national forest and a beautiful alpine valley, blanketed with wildflowers. Leave your cell phone at home and get lost on the edge of 700 acres of enchanted forest. Trade your soul-sucking commute for a midnight soak in 24-hour plunge pools under star-studded skies, or rise with the sun for a daybreak hike before getting your asana on in the fresh air. Any way you look at it, here’s your chance to bloom.

We’ll do our part to keep things grounded and authentic and rich and real, offering four badass yoga practices rich with music and philosophy; delicious, lovingly-prepared meals; and even a chance to “book club” it up with a little vino, lots of irreverence, and Neal Pollack’s Stretch: The Unlikely Making of a Yoga Dude — but also giving you plenty of time on your own to get lost, to slow down, to unplug, to breathe, and to really soak up the hiking and the sunshine and the hot springs in their full springtime glow.

Discover more at www.sierrahotsprings.org.

Rachel Meyer Yoga

Rachel Meyer is a San Francisco-based yoga teacher and writer with roots in musical theater, theology and the arts. She’s an RYT who’s written for Yoga Journal, trained with Rusty Wells and Bikram Choudhury, and studied toward a Masters in Systematic Theology under groundbreaking radical theologian (and badass grandma) Rosemary Radford Ruether. Long before that, though, she grew up on the Great Plains, so she’s always had a real thing for big sky. Rachel’s bhakti flow vinyasa classes are a music- and philosophy-infused blend of athleticism, dance, and song, rich in spirit, sweaty with hard work, and celebratory in tone. You can expect creative sequencing, advanced backbends, arm balances, inversions, and maybe a vertical split or two along the way. She hopes you’ll laugh as much as you sweat, and leave feeling a little stronger, a little softer, and a lot more balanced.

You can find Rachel at www.rachelmeyeryoga.com/, and further ramblings on yoga, meditation, the arts and more at her literary practice mat, rawrach.blogspot.com.

Rogue on the Rogue

Posted by: Solyoga | Comments (0)

Rogue-River

Our goal this year was to uncover the most spectacular adventures for under $1000. Man are we glad we did that. We’ve teamed up with Rouge Wilderness, named one of Outside magazines best adventure travel companies on earth to bring you a ridiculously SWEET adventure.

Join us for 4 days of river runs, yoga, swimming, hiking, fires and delicious food on the Rouge River in Oregon, recently named one of the best river rafting experiences in the country.

Rogue-River2

Welcome to the Wild and Scenic Rogue River. Rogue Wilderness Adventures is your gateway to this beautiful and pristine wilderness area. For over 38 years Rogue Wilderness Adventures has been the leader in adventure travel on Oregon’s Rogue River.

Novelist Zane Grey felt the draw of this beautiful area; he wrote many of his western books in a cabin which still stands along the Rogue today. The area is steeped in history and lore from Native Americans to recent stories told around the campfire. The Rogue has famous fun rapids like Rainie Falls, Upper and Lower Black Bar Falls and Blossom Bar that will leave you memories of the sun dancing off of frothing warm water through beautiful rock formations and narrow canyons edged by towering cliffs.

Our adventures will open your eyes to the legendary wildlife viewing the Rogue River canyon. Deer, black bear, river otters, mallard ducks, turtles, bald eagles, and osprey are usually seen during your 34 mile trip from Grave Creek to Foster Bar. Enjoy your wilderness adventure on the nation’s first national Wild and Scenic river. Whitewater rafters are guaranteed an uncrowded, pristine adventure.

The Rogue River canyon from Grave Creek to Foster Bar features a historic hiking trail just above the river so hiking to side creeks and hidden swimming pools is easy and the views are spectacular. Checkout our new 28″x10″ waterproof Rogue River Hiking Trail Map. The Pacific Northwest Cascade Mountain Range near Crater Lake National Park in southern Oregon is where the Rogue River starts its journey to the Pacific Ocean.
