How to Choose a Yoga Retreat That Suits You
Retreats differ far more than their photographs suggest. Match the daily schedule, not the scenery, to what you want.
Decide what you are going for
Rest, a stronger practice, quiet, or company. A yoga holiday built around one of these can be wrong for another.
Read the timetable
- Hours of practice each day, and at what level.
- Free time, or every hour filled.
- Silence periods, if any.
Ask about the teacher
Who leads the sessions, what they trained in and how many people are in a class. Twelve students and forty are different experiences.
Look at the practicalities
- Shared or private rooms.
- Food, and whether your needs can be met.
- How you get there from the airport.
Be honest about your body
Tell the organiser about injuries or conditions before booking. If you have a health concern, ask your doctor whether the programme is suitable.
Start short
A long weekend tells you whether a week would suit you.
