Studio Memberships and Loyalty Levels: Are They Worth It?
Studios and retreat operators reward repeat visits with levels and perks. They are worth having only if you would have gone anyway.
How levels work
Attend or spend more and you move up a level, with better perks at each: priority booking, discounts, guest passes.
The useful questions
- What do I get at my current level?
- What exactly moves me up?
- What must I keep doing to stay there?
- Does anything expire?
Do not practise for points
If a scheme is changing how often you go, it is working for the studio, not for you.
A plain explanation of the idea
The clearest descriptions of level schemes tend to be written for beginners. One example, in Traditional Chinese and about gaming membership rather than yoga, is this beginner's explanation of what a VIP level is and whether a newcomer should chase one (VIP 是什麼?新手要不要衝等級). Its central question, whether to chase the level at all, is the right one to ask of any loyalty scheme.
A simple test
Would you attend this often with no perks? If yes, enjoy them. If no, stay at the level your habits earn.
